Burn My Body for a Kilowatt

The profits for the pockets

sound like rockets

pointed at the ground.

Free debris

to the valley,

burst the dam,

and meet the town.

A welcome cheer,

let’s get out of here,

but its too late,

baby’s awake.

The car is stalling

the walls are falling,

but you won’t see me

drop a tear.

But so, it saved us so many times,

it was sure to kill us in the end,

and I’d be damned,

to be a non-American,

so I share the burden in my hands.

And in my lungs.

And in my water,

so my house is lit

and your bedroom’s hotter.

But I don’t holler,

I just do my part.

If not for me,

the rest would

fall apart.

And when the sludge

come soak my carpet,

turn it black and bubbly,

and when the dust

come clear the air

tasting something ugly,

I won’t complain,

not to my name,

my great granddad

would’a done the same.

I’d burn my body

for a kilowatt

than burn my soul

to make it stop.
